Hi Apple,

Was actually looking at the product when I accidently found out that you are also from NUS/SCI.Anyways, there are still 3 more kittens left in the science canteen. I have been feeding them in the morning and then they will run off to play. 1 black and 2 "tabby". 2 of the cats are very skittish and runs off when anyone approaches.

I am not sure but is the animal welfare group in sch going to do anything about it? I think that there are some people that are complaining about them already as the uncle in the canteen has asked me not to feed them too close to the canteen.

Anyways, hope that there is something that we can do to help them;p Personally, I have 3 bunnies and a hamster at home so I can't do much to adopt but I hope that the group can put in place a sterilization scheme so that cats can live in sch without contributing to the stray problem.

Hmmm, hope I am not rambling away so anyhow thanks for rescuing some of them!

Cheers,
Wei Ling

c(o.o)c is indeed a friend of mine, she is just feeling defensive on my behalf. Please don't fight on my website k! Let's just keep the discussions to the topic of cats, since we are all here because we care about them.

naturehasitways, there were three of us trying to catch the first three kittens when they were asleep in the drain (see the picture). When we stuck our hands in, 2 of us managed to grab 3 and the other 3 kittens ran in both directions inside the drain (the drain is about half a metre deep). After they 3 other kittens scattered, they were spooked and definitely not going to wander out again anytime soon. That's why only 3 got caught.

>>Abby

Thanks for explaining. Honestly, I couldn't understand why only 3 of the kitten were caught initially since you guys were trying to get them adopted. But since manpower is the issue then I guess there isn't much to say about it anymore. Also, if the "gentlemen" below is your friend, perhaps you can remind him/her to watch his/her manners as illustrated above. I do take offence to what he/she wrote. Sarcasms are not taken lightly.

>>c(o.o)c

Are you here to pick a quarrel? Read this para.

"Six kittens and their mother have been staying at the science canteen at NUS for the past month or so. It’s not certain how much longer they can remain there until AVA comes to take them away so a few of us are trying to get them adopted, or at least fostered to good homes."

My fault for the misleading information posted?

AND YES~! I dont have powderful England like you~ So Bite me~!

or maybe Gramma Me?

what the heck is a 'mother kitten'? u meant 'the kittens' mother' or the 'mother of the kittens'?

What assumption are you talking about? What has this got to do with AVA? Do you think that people working for AVA are so free to deal with cat adoption everyday??

hi naturehasitsways, thank you for your comment. I do feel bad for separating the kittens from their mother but 'pity' was not the motivation for doing so. Taking the kittens off the streets is one way of controlling the population of strays, the other is sterilisation. Both of which were done in this case. The kittens were approaching the age at which they would wean off their mother and leave to mark out their own territory which would in turn lead to more strays.

Whether or not AVA had already been called is not the issue, I'm sure none of us would want to wait for that to happen before taking action. I appreciate your input and I believe that your intentions are good as well. However, sometimes we have to be realistic in our approach to solve a situation. In this instance, due to the shortage of help and foster care, we were not able to catch ALL the kittens at one go and foster them while searching for adopters. I hope you understand our position as well.

If you would like to help out, do leave me your email address and I will be sure to contact you if any others need help with dealing with strays in the future.

So you guys are the ones that are responsible for the missing kittens... Ever thought of the mother kitten's feelings? Maybe I got it wrong but seems like you guys were taking the kittens away on separate occassions while leaving some behind with the mother kitten. Perhaps the mother kitten is protecting her babies by hidding them elsewhere. Treat them with respect please. you don't go take 3 babies away and expect the mother not to start worrying when it will be her other 3 babies' turn to "disappear"? Probably a better alternative was to have gotten all 7 of them at one time and then start looking for shelters.

Perhaps your intentions were good but ever remember that animals have feelings? They might look pitiful to you but the true question is "Are they?"

Just a check. Did someone call AVA? Or was it an assumption?

Hey Apple,

Noticed your message on Siva's FB and one of my comm member colleague from CWS alerted me about the same thing. I am also from NUS, perhaps we can work something out.
