Hello! Hope you are having a fantastic start to the year!
I’ve just set up a facebook group called Singaporeans for alternative periods.
I know the name sounds kinda weird but I wanted a name that emphasises advocacy for having alternatives to disposable products during our monthly period. I hope that you’ll take the time to pop by and have a look and maybe join the group as well! (There aren’t that many people in the group for now)
Eventually, it’ll be nice to have platform to discuss the usage of alternative menstrual products with other Singaporeans even though it seems that the idea hasn’t really caught on yet. Each of us can play a part in promoting environmental issues to other ladies in our society.
I’m also considering bringing in some washable cloth pads. What are they? They’re just like your regular pads except they’re made of cloth, meaning they are not disposable (which also means you have to wash them). The two most immediate advantages are that it’s much more comfortable than disposable pads, and of course, you aren’t contributing any trash to the environment.
Before you go “ewwwwwwww”, I do hope that you will give this article a read – Eight Myths About Washable Menstrual Pads and you might change your mind.
I hope that you’ll give me some feedback on what you think about washable pads, and also if you think I should bring some in for distribution in Singapore. Please either leave a comment on this post or email me at abby@applemilky.org.
Cheers,
Abby
